Stand Watie's Confederates tried to ambush a Union supply train bound from Fort Scott, Kansas, to Fort Gibson where the Texas Road crossed Cabin Creek. Warned in advance, James M. Williams attacked the entrenched Confederates on July 1 and 2 and drove them off. The train got through, which contributed to the Union victory at Honey Springs later that month.
