Dublin Depot on the Virginia and Tennessee was the regional Confederate Army headquarters, a camp of instruction and the commissary and quartermaster center for southwestern Virginia. The line carried supplies, food and troops between Richmond and Chattanooga.
After the Battle of Cloyd's Mountain on May 9, 1864, Crook's troops found warehouses of food, military equipment and tobacco at Dublin and burned the depot and warehouses. They tore up about six miles of track and burned the New River bridge; the line was repaired in about a month.
