COLT ARMORY
Colt's riverfront Hartford factory had 1,500 employees during the war and produced 150,000 muskets and pistols a year, including the Colt Army Model 1860 revolver. A fire on February 4, 1864 destroyed most of the factory. Elizabeth Colt had the armory rebuilt.

Colt's riverfront Hartford factory had 1,500 employees during the war who produced 150,000 muskets and pistols a year. Production of the Colt Army Model 1860 revolver reached 200,500 by 1865, and Colt was the most notable contract maker of the Model 1861 rifled musket.
A fire on February 4, 1864 destroyed most of the factory, including arms, machinery, plans and records. Elizabeth Colt had the armory rebuilt with its blue onion dome, and with no new military contracts the company laid off over 800 employees after the war.
