An Army ordnance post on the Chicago Road west of Detroit, built to supply the Old Northwest. It never manufactured weapons. Its staff repaired arms and stored weapons and munitions, and Michigan companies stopped there to draw arms on their way to the front.
In 1864 only eight soldiers were stationed there full time until Company F of the 2nd Regiment, Veteran Corps, arrived on August 20, 1864. At the end of the war the arsenal collected the arms of returning Michigan regiments. It closed and was sold in 1875.

The commandant's quarters, on the National Register since 1970, houses the Dearborn Historical Museum. The arsenal's powder magazine survives as the McFadden-Ross House museum.
Track in service today runs beside the site, on a line owned by a smaller railroad.
