The Missouri Depot, a federal arms depot near Liberty on the western Missouri frontier, completed in 1839 with a storehouse, magazine, workshops, an armory, gun sheds and laboratories.
About 200 Clay County and Jackson County militiamen forced their way in on April 20, 1861, and carried off three brass six-pounders, 12 iron six-pounders, 1,180 percussion muskets, 923 pistols, 400,000 cartridges, 1,000 pounds of cannon powder, 9,900 pounds of musket powder and 1,800 pounds of rifle powder. The arms went to Missouri militiamen and the Missouri State Guard, and the brass guns became Guibor's State Guard battery.
