The base closed on March 31, 1996, and has been redeveloped in phases. Five buildings from the 1850s still stand in historic Shipyard North, and parts of the yard are a National Historic Landmark District.
The nearest railroad in service today is a line owned by Union Pacific, about 2.5 miles away.
