VANCOUVER ARSENAL
Set up in 1853 as the Vancouver Ordnance Depot to store and issue arms, munitions and equipment in the Pacific Northwest, and renamed in October 1862. Its wartime output included some 300,000 cartridges. Secessionists planned to seize it but never carried it out.
Then
Set up in 1853 as the Vancouver Ordnance Depot beside the Army post at Vancouver to store and issue arms, munitions and equipment to federal, state and militia forces in the Pacific Northwest. It was renamed Vancouver Arsenal in October 1862, and its wartime output included some 300,000 cartridges.
Secessionists drew up a wartime plan to seize the arsenal, carry off its arms and blow up the powder magazine, but never carried it out. The arsenal was discontinued in 1881.
