The supply vessel Agrippina brought the guns, provisions and 350 tons of coal to Terceira, and the steamer Bahama brought Captain Raphael Semmes from Liverpool. After three days of work the ship was commissioned CSS Alabama on August 24, 1862, about a mile off Terceira in international waters. She went on to burn 65 Union vessels, most of them merchant ships.
