Stuart left with 1,500 cavalry to burn the Orange and Alexandria bridge, but a rainstorm made that impossible. His men took the lightly guarded depot instead, with 200 prisoners, the Union payroll, a large amount of supplies and Pope's dispatch book. Lee used the book's plans to defeat Pope at Second Manassas.
