Charles K. Prioleau, the only British partner of Fraser, Trenholm and Co., built this house in 1862. From here he arranged finance for arms and blockade runners and took on a 10,000-rifle Enfield contract. In 1864 he ran the Southern Bazaar fundraiser for Confederate prisoners from the square.
