Confederate purchasing agent Captain Caleb Huse arrived at Liverpool on May 10, 1861, to buy Enfield rifles. The market was already flooded with orders, so he bought through S. Isaac, Campbell & Company, and the first purchase reached the Confederacy later that summer. Huse later contracted with the London Armoury Company, which had shipped more than 70,000 rifles to the Confederacy by February 1863.
