SAFFOLD NAVY YARD
David S. Johnston's yard on the Chattahoochee built the gunboat CSS Chattahoochee under a contract signed October 19, 1861. A boiler explosion on May 27, 1863, killed sixteen of her crew and sank her to her decks.
