About
Carolina Quotes is an edited index of what people tied to North and South Carolina said and wrote, with the citation for each one.
Two states, one library
The collection covers North Carolina and South Carolina. Each profile records the person's specific connections: birth, upbringing, residence, education, work, public office or a place named for them. People with ties to both states appear in both state collections and have one profile.
630 people and 7,477 quotations, including 265 people born, raised or resident in the Carolinas.

Where an entry comes from
Most records are compiled from English Wikiquote, and keep the citation Wikiquote records for where the words occurred. 26 records are curated from linked interviews, publications and archival records. Nothing here is generated or written from memory.
Words about a person are never stored as words by them. Where an attribution is contested or uncited, the entry carries that label rather than presenting it as settled.
Correcting or adding something
Send it in through the submission form. A person reads every submission, and nothing is published without that. If a quotation here is wrong, say so the same way and it will be fixed in this index.
Rights
Records in the curated corpus are compiled from identified sources, which are linked from each entry. Records still carried from the harvested corpus reuse text from English Wikiquote under CC BY-SA 4.0; each one names its corpus in the API. Biographical facts come from Wikidata under CC0, and portraits from the Library of Congress where the Library states there are no known restrictions.
