RICHMOND ARMORY
The old state armory, refitted with rifle machinery taken from Harpers Ferry, made about 40,000 Richmond rifles, carbines and short rifles from October 1861 until wooden stocks ran out in January 1865. Most of it burned in the Evacuation Fire of April 1865.

The old state armory was refitted with rifle machinery taken from Harpers Ferry and made about 40,000 Richmond rifles, carbines and short rifles. Production ran from October 1861 until wooden stocks ran out in January 1865.
Most of the armory burned in the Evacuation Fire of April 1865. Its rolling mills survived and became part of Tredegar, and the ruins of the main building were demolished in 1900.
Now
Lines owned by CSX, Norfolk Southern and smaller railroads run through Richmond today.
